A PTA sponsored event that typically takes place on a Friday evening in January at the Burleigh Manor Middle School cafeteria. It is a free event for all CLES students and their families. Parents are expected to stay and chaperone their child for the entire dance. There is seating at the back of the cafeteria for parents. Children are encouraged to remain in the cafeteria during the dance and not to loiter outside in the hallways.
The dance typically has a theme. Previous themes have been tropical/Hawaiian shirt, dress like your favorite character in a book, or pajama party. The theme of the dance is announced in the PTA Dolphin Splash email newsletter or the Dolphin Detail email newsletter. Fifth graders typically wear their fifth grade tie dye t-shirt that they purchased at the beginning of the year. There is a DJ that plays pop music that is heard on the radio - not Kids Bop. Common songs include the Macarena, The Cha Cha Slide, Cupid Shuffle, and the Wobble.
A drink and snack is provided for the children courtesy of the PTA. The second half of the dance features a hula-hoop contest where individuals compete in hula hooping for the longest period of time standing, standing on one leg, jumping, and moving around. Several rounds of this contest take place on the dance floor.
The PTA seeks volunteers to help with the dance including set up, clean up, volunteers to distribute snacks, and hall monitors. Please look out for a sign up in the winter if you would like to volunteer.
