Fourth Grade

Binder - beginning in fourth grade a large binder becomes part of the school supply list. Fourth graders learn to organize their papers for the year in this binder.

Chorus - Fourth graders again have the option to participate in fourth grade chorus for the year. Interested students may participate in chorus and band, chorus and orchestra, or just chorus. A permission slip to participate in the chorus program is sent home in the student's Take Home Folder in September. There are two chorus concerts during the school year - winter and spring. There also may be a third concert entitled the musical showcase in May or June where the fourth grade chorus performs.

Orchestra - This is the second year that CLES students may participate in the orchestra program. This program offers year long instruction in violin, viola, cello, and bass both as a whole orchestra and as a sectional (where the orchestra director instructs a smaller group of students playing one instrument). A permission slip to participate in the Orchestra program is sent home in the student's Take Home Folder in September. There is a back to band and orchestra night that takes place in September that outlines the expectation of these music programs to parents. Orchestra instruction occurs by fourth graders missing other instructional or recreational time in school. The rotation of the band schedule is published at the beginning of the school year and is on a four week rotation (weeks A, B, C, and D). A reminder of the current band/orchestra rotation week is published in the weekly Dolphin Detail email newsletter. Students may participate in chorus and orchestra. However they may not participate in band and orchestra. There are two concerts during the school year - winter and spring. Orchestra students are required to purchase a white CLES orchestra polo shirt offered for purchase at the beginning of the school year.

Morning Announcements - All fourth graders will have the opportunity to speak on the morning announcements this year if they so desire. The opportunity is rotated through each class in the grade. It is optional and they do not have to participate if they do no wish to do so.

SCH (Simulated Congressional Hearing) - A spring group project that is part of the fifth grade curriculum. Fourth graders participate in the opening ceremony of this large day long event. They stand around the cafeteria and recite the preamble to the constitution.
