Academics - there is an increased expectation for first graders to maintain sustained academic focus. There is less time to play during the school day and more time for academic instruction
Daily reading - in first grade students begin to read every night as part of their home work. Depending on the teacher this reading is logged on a separate sheet or in the agenda book.
MAP (Measure of Academic progress) - First grade is the first year that students take the MAP test. It is a is a computerized adaptive test which helps teachers, parents, and administrators improve learning for all students and make informed decisions to promote a child's academic growth. Results of the MAP test are sent home via the students Take Home Folder. The MAP test does not affect the student's report card grade.
