Week of

10/15-10/18/18

While this past Thursday was about the most unique situation we have experienced with regard to schedule adjustments for the school, it also gave us all a chance to see just how amazing this staff is. Honestly, given one crazy set of circumstances, people jumped in and took care of what our families needed! We are so grateful for our amazing staff and our patient, understanding families.

We are making a point of helping our students take ownership of their learning. As time allows, try to engage your students in conversation about their learning once a week. Use PowerSchool to track their grades and ask them to lead you through any Google classrooms they have. The simple act of having them lead you through their current levels will help them develop accountability for their learning.

ATTENDANCE MATTERS!! Help your students develop grit and perseverance for life by getting them to school on days when they “aren’t feeling it”, but also are not sick. Our world demands attendance and punctuality, so help your kids develop these traits by making sure they are at school and on time (7:45). While most school work can be made up, we simply cannot replicate the valuable instruction and peer interaction that occurs in class. That said, we don’t want or expect them to be present if they are truly ill.

Community Outreach

The RMS Student Council is trying something new this year. The first ever RMS Scarecrow Contest and Festival will occur on Thursday, November 1. Check out more specifics here .

Our second Fall Anchor Night will be held on Thursday, November 8 from 6-8 pm. This event is designed to help parents navigate the waters of raising a teen. Counselors and administration have now collected the necessary input for the sessions. We will be sharing more info in the coming weeks.

We are excited to enter the second decade of a terrific tradition here at Rugby. Our Eleventh Annual Veterans Day Luncheon will take place on Friday, November 9. We will share more details as we approach that date.

In an attempt to honor the sacrifices our veterans have made, on October 25 at 6:00 pm, Rugby will be hosting the first Student-Faculty Volleyball Game to benefit the Blue Ridge Honor Flight. The recommended donation for admission is $5 for an individual and $10 for families. Check out the event flyer here.
