Are you working by yourself or in a team?
I am working by my self.
What materials will you need for your project?
Tin foil, pennies, and water.
What is your plan to create in this project?
To make a boat hold pennies.
What unique qualities will your project have?
It will be able to hold pennies without goimg under water.
This is my plan for my boat.
I worked on my website and started planning.
Finished my plan I changed a little and started making my boat. This is how far I got today.
Today, I worked on my boat a little more then tested it out. I added another layer of tin foil to make it better. This is what I ended with.
I made a new boat because my other one was leaking and spent the whole time doing that because I kept messing up.
I finished my new boat and took a video of it. I got lower number but Its okay.
I did my reflection and finished up my website.
First test I got 79 pennies. This is what my boat looked like.
Second test I got 80 pennies. I added more foil each time. This what my boat looked like did not get videos.
Made a different boat because my other one was leaking so I made a new one and it is my final one. I got a lower number from the rest but its okay I got 60 pennies.
Using tin foil, rulers, scissors, and my hands, I created a flat bottom boat that held 60 pennies. It also had a width of 3in, length of 5in, and was 1in tall because I thought it would be cool to see how many pennies a boat made out of tin foil would hold. Also I thought it would be a fun challenge to keep it the length and width it was supposed to be but also hold a lot of pennies. .
During this process, I learned that it is very difficult to make something a a certain size but also make it hold a lot of pennies. Also I learned that for the boat to float it has to have a lot of empty space. Another thing was that it cant be to heavy but the walls or the bottom also can't be to thin
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to Innovative Designer because I learned from my mistakes. Like I would make a boat and it would start leaking and then I would know what the problem was and fix it to make another one that is better,.
A challenge I overcame on this project was I would forget how I folded it the first time when it would hold a lot of pennies.. I was able to do it by doing that I made new ones that weren't has good as the first one but that made me make new boats and combine all the ides to make a good boa. Also I would be able to learn new ways to make boats float.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change the boat I would keep the same design but I would want to get better at the folding the boat and find a boat that holds a lot of pennies. The reason why I would change it is because my first two boats were pretty good and would hold a lot of pennies but would start to leak. Then I would forget how to fold it like how I did the first time and the boat would suck. .
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, Marketing. My project connects to the Construction Trades CTE program at Hastings High School.
My project connects to careers in \Construction because I am building something so that it will hold. Another reason it ties to construction is because I am building something that has to be a certain length and width and can be to tall. Some careers are Boat manufacturing, Boat Construction, and Boat cleaning are all some jobs that connect to this project.
This is my final boat it held 60 pennies. Not has good has my other ones but that is okay.
