Using tinfoil, I created a boat that is capable to hold a lot of pennies because I wanted to get the most pennies in the whole class. Another reason is I wanted to see what I could design with only 20 inches of tinfoil. Also because I thought the Penny boat project would be a lot more fun than other projects.

During this process, I learned how to design a boat to try and hold the most pennies. Another thing I learned is where you have to put the pennies in the boat. Also I learned the distance to drop the penny into the boat.

The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to innovative designer because I didn't just build a boat I also designed the boat. Also because I kept redoing the boat to make it better.

A challenge I overcame on this project was trying to get the boat to equal 10 inches when I add up the sides. I was able to do it by testing it myself and having classmates test it to make sure its legal. Also making my base big enough but also have good size walls.

Given a chance to do this again, I would change how tall I made the walls. The reason why I would change it is because I saw some of my classmates and the made a big base and really small walls. I think that worked a lot better than trying to have taller walls. 

Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, Marketing.  My project connects to the Engineering design CTE program at Hastings High School. I think it connects to engineering design because I made and designed a boat to hold as many pennies as I could.

My project connects to careers in mechanical engineering because I designed a boat, Tested, and Improved. Jobs that tie with mechanical engineering are automotive engineer, and manufacturing engineer. Those both tie with mechanical engineering because you are doing hands on designing.
