Using Tinker CAD, I created a laser cut of my favorite player because I want to have it in my room. Also to show my parents what I designed. Another thing is because I have wanted to do laser cutting all year I just never did it.

During this process, I learned how to turn a image into a STL. Also I learned how to work the laser cutter. Another thing I learned was all the steps to make different files and the right sizes to send to Mr. Renner.

The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to empowered learner because I had to look at videos of the internet to learn how to create it. Also had to learn how to how to convert things into different types of files.

A challenge I overcame on this project was not knowing where to make my design. I was able to do it by looking at videos on the internet to teach me where to design it. Also had to figure out how to make sure my board was the right height of the cutter so the laser doesn't hit it. I was able to do it by taking the main board out and put a couple smaller boards under to lift it.

Given a chance to do this again, I would change the board that I used. The reason why I would change it is because it was to thick and didn't cut deep enough. The reason I would want the cut to be deeper is so the cut shows more.

Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, Marketing.  My project connects to the Engineering design CTE program at Hastings High School. I think it connects to the engineering design CTE is because I designed and created it.

My project connects to careers in Mechanical Engineering because I designed a basketball player to get cut onto a piece of wood. Jobs that tie with Mechanical Engineering are automotive engineer, and manufacturing engineer. Those both tie with engineering design because you are designing and creating something.
