7P2- Cardboard Project

Using cardboard, I created a slot machine because it would be fun and difficult to make. I also made this beacause it would be funny. The 3rd reason I made this was because my partner and I thought of it.

• During this process, I learned how to use cardboard more effectively. I also learned how to make a turning point out of cardboard. Lastly, I learned how to cut cardboard effectively. 

• The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to Innovative Designer because I designed and then built my project. This also ties to Global Collaborator because this is put on a website that is shared all over the world.

• A challenge I overcame on this project was making the lever. I was able to do it by putting two cardboard cylinders together and hot-gluing them together. Another challenge I faced was trying to make a coin dumping mechanism and failing multiple times.

• Given a chance to do this again, I would change the failed mechanism that was supposed to dump coins/tokens when you won. The reason why I would change it is because it failed so, given more time, I would find a way to make it. I would also change the lever because it broke really easily and it didn't really work.

• Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, and Marketing.  My project connects to the CTE Engineering Design program at Hastings High School. That is because we designed and engineered our project.

• My project connects to careers in Toy Design because Toy Design makes things similar to what I made. This also connects to Craft Manufacturing. That is because they make cardboard items and sell them, like what I did.
