8p6 and 7 - Sewing

Reflection

• Using sewing machine, fabric, sewing machine supplies, iPad, and computer , I created a tote bag. The reason I created this is   because I wanted to expand my sewing skills since I haven't really sewed before. The reason I chose to make a tote bag is because it seemed easy and the fabric went well with it. 

• During this process, I learned how to make handles easily. I did this by folding it then ironing it to stay in place which it stayed for over a week. I also learned a lot of sewing techniques to make my bag. I also learned how to cut fabric very easily which got my fabric super straight.

• The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to Empowered learner. The reason my project ties to this is  because I set a goal to make a good tote bag and I achieved it. Another goal I set was to get almost the whole thing done before break which I did. 

• A challenge I overcame on this project was not getting the fabric cut right. I was able to do it by changing the blade o n the rotary cutter. Another way I overcame this is by putting the mat on the floor which made cutting easier. 

• Given a chance to do this again, I would change the handles. The reason why I would change it is because they fell off a couple times. Also they were placed weird so the bag didn't open properly.

• Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, Marketing.  My project connects to the Engineering CTE program at Hastings High School.  My project connects to careers in sewing.
