Technology studies develop 21st Century Skills (also known as Enterprise or Employability Skills). The following is from a Foundation For Young Australians report called "The New Work Smarts".
Creativity is a big part of the future.
No matter which career you end up in, you will need problem solving and digital literacy skills - like the ones you learn in Technology!
Seek (the largest job site in Australia) lists 7 must-have skills for your future. This is how Technology subjects help you develop these skills:
Great communication skills. Improve your communications skills working in groups to solve problems in Technology. Learn how to write a design brief, present a proposal or evaluate your work to improve your written communication skills.
Flexibility, adaptability and innovation. Technology is all about try, try and try again. If something doesn't work - find another way. Tap into your innovative side by creating and making.
Creativity and problem solving. Technology centers around solving problems (we call them Design Briefs). Solve real world problems using real world skills.
Results focused. Learn how to finish that project, manage your time and get those results.
Great interpersonal skills. A technology classroom is a lot like the environment in industry - lots of people all working on different projects in the same space. Learn how to work with those people.
Computer skills. Digital technologies = amazing computer skills. Be ahead of the game in your future studies by having skills that your peers could only dream of.
Ability to research. When designing a project, you always start with research. Learn how to ask the right questions and get the right answers.
