Food Studies focuses on a range of differing impacts that food has in our lives. Students learn about how cuisine is formed, how to budget effectively and how digestion works. There is a foundational understanding of nutrition with students learning how to prepare nutritious and healthy meals to carry into their adulthood. Students learn about what our foods are comprised of and the reactions and changes that occur whilst cooking food.
Monash Tech School facilitates a program to educate our food studies students on food fraud and its quiet prevalence within food systems. Students have the opportunity to use various technologies to conduct tests on the food they produce, for example monitoring the water content of food, researching packaging solutions to assist in preservation and then creating suitable packaging. We teach our students how to make more informed decisions about their food and to delve deeper into how food is produced for the consumer market.
