GWATFL Mentoring Program Co-Leader

The MAP program is rolling out the GWATFL Mentoring Program.  This will allow new teachers to be matched with mentor teachers in small groups.  


We will meet in person during the GWATFL conferences and then virtually.

Maris Hawkins

Biography

Maris became a GWATFL MAP in 2022. Maris is a lower and middle school Spanish teacher in Washington, DC. She is the co-author of the book, Common Ground: Second Language Acquisition Theory Goes to the Classroom. Maris has presented at various conferences including NECTFL, SCOLT and ACTFL and has facilitated various workshops through national organizations with school districts. She also works on the We Teach Languages podcast team.

Caitlyn Pineault

Biography

Caitlyn became a GWATFL MAP in 2023. Caitlyn is a doctoral student of Applied Linguistics at Georgetown University. Her research interests include instructed second language acquisition, task-based language teaching, and heritage language education. She is currently the co-lead instructor of the Georgetown-STARTALK teacher training program and the project assistant of the TBLT Task Bank. Prior to beginning the doctoral degree, Caitlyn taught elementary Spanish (Ohio) and high school Spanish (Indiana). She presents regularly at conferences including OFLA, NECTFL, ACTFL, and AAAL. 

Cindy Yi

Biography

Cindy has been a GWATFL MAP since 2023. With a passion for language education, she has been shaping young minds as an Early Language teacher in elementary schools for 5 years, fostering love for Spanish as a second language. Currently pursuing a Master's in Education Technology, driven by her belief in the transformative power of technology in the world language classroom.
