About Mme green

Amanda’s spark for science ignited at an early age exploring nature with her family and then grew into a flame for space and all things STEM as she followed Canada’s journey skyward. She teaches Junior High Science, Math, Coding, and STEAM classes in both English and French in Beaumont, Alberta.   She thrives through collaboration and sharing her passions with other educators, students, and her community. She has been working towards Reconciliation in Science and (with guidance) is incorporating Indigenous Ways of Knowing authentically into her lessons.  She believes in creating authentic cross-curricular learning opportunities for her students to apply to real-world problems, fostering a generation of young people armed to build a better future.

Amanda earned her Bachelor of Education (Secondary) at the University of Alberta with a focus on Biological Sciences and Social Studies in 2001.  She began her career as a Biological Science teacher in Monterrey, Mexico and has since taught a variety of subjects for grades 4-11 in St. Albert, Cold Lake, Wetaskiwin and Beaumont, Alberta, Canada.  She is currently the lead STEM teacher at École Champs Vallée School with Black Gold Regional Schools and on the ATA Science Council executive as the Division III Director.  She is a proud mother of two wonderful children who are by far her biggest inspirations yet!

After many projects and grant work together, Amanda and her colleague, Julie Arsenault were the proud recipients of the 2022 Prime Minister's Award Teaching Excellence in STEM - Certificate of Achievement, the 2018 ATA Science Council Outstanding Science Teacher Award and the 2021 Learning For Sustainable Future's Earth Steward Teaching Award.  They love collaborating and value sharing their spark for STEM with everyone they meet.  Amanda is also a Canadian Space Ambassador, a member of the Board of Directors for Inside Education and an active STEM consultant and public speaker

Amanda loves to share her excitement for science with her students, colleagues and other professionals.  She shares her journey focusing on pedagogy, grant and cross-curricular project work, Women in STEM, the future of Canada in the space industry and more.  Amanda often speaks at district PD days, local Teacher's conventions and ATA Science Council Conferences.  She has enjoyed working as an instructor with the Alberta Science Network, consulting with Nelson Publishing on resource development, speaking at the Canadian Space Summit and giving the closing keynote address with Julie Arsenault at the SEDS Ascension Conference in 2019. In 2020 Amanda became a Teacher Leader with Let's Talk Science and gave a variety of online PD and spoke at local summits.
