Cosmetology

In Cosmetology, students will receive professional training in the art and science of the care and beautification of hair, skin, and nails.  This program is designed to prepare students to qualify for the state board licensing examination.  Students will learn skills that include scalp treatment, hair shaping, hair styling, setting, waving, hair coloring, and shampoos and rinses.  Students are required to purchase a cosmetology supply kit at the beginning of their first year in the program. The kit contains items that will be used in both years of the program.  Students will learn through practical and theory based methods using mannequins as well as live models.  

Curriculum

Cosmetology is a two year program specifically designed for 11th and 12th grade students.  Students will take the first year of the program as juniors and continue for their second year as seniors.  The curriculum covers chemistry, bacteriology, and anatomy and physiology of the face, head, arms, and hands.  Students will have to the opportunity to earn their South Carolina Cosmetology Licensure by completion of their 2nd year in the program.
