The West Virginia Music Educators Association, or WVMEA, offers high school students two opportunities to perform on the elite level among the best students throughout the state. Students tryout with a selection of two etudes, their personal solo, 9 scales up to 4 sharps and 4 flats, a chromatic scale, and a sight-reading excerpt. After this tryout, both ensembles select the students with the highest audition scores throughout the state to perform in March during the annual WVMEA state conference. Those who selected are eligible to tryout for the NAfME All-National Honor Ensembles for the following year.
