GRAPHIC DESIGN - TGG3/4M1

PRINT & GRAPHIC COMMUNICATION

Graphic Design is the creative planning and execution of visual communication. Graphic designers use a combination of shapes and forms, words and images to communicate ideas or concepts visually to others.

In this course, a series of exercises introduces you to a wide variety of graphic design tools and techniques. You will develop skills in communication, illustration, typography and layout and are introduced to the role of computers in the publishing industry. The integration of image, text and headline culminates in a final problem which will require the creation of a convincing comprehensive artwork.

Work assigned to students will be similar to those faced by free-lancers and advertising agencies. Students will spend the semester using desktop publishing and image creation and editing editing software. Class work will emphasize typographical skills, familiarity with all aspects of electronic publishing, printing technologies, and corporate design.

Upon completion of this graphic design course, each student should have a website and or sufficient works for an entrance portfolio to a post secondary applied design program.
