Construction

At SDCI we offer a variety of courses connected to construction. We have regular construction courses that focus on all aspects of construction from building deck chairs to learning about what it takes to build a house. SDCI also offers custom woodworking which focusing in on the building and designing of wood itself. Another course SDCI offers related to construction is the Bikes and Boats course that was created by Mr. Vine.

For construction itself, SDCI has three courses you can take. TCJ 2O, which is the grade 10 course, TCJ 3C, which is the grade 11 course, and TCJ 4C, which is the grade 12 course. As you progress the different levels of the construction courses students will be introduced to more complicated aspects of the industry. Students will also take aspects from previous courses and build on them in the senior level classes. Students will learn how to create and read working drawings as well as become familiar with common construction materials, components, and processes. A variety of hand and power tools will be used throughout the course and students will learn how to apply knowledge of imperial and metric systems of measurement. Students will also learn how the commercial, industrial, and recreational construction industries work and how they are different.
