Communications Technology

Here at SDCI we offer two branches of Communication technology also known as Comm Tech. Students can take the regular communications classes and learn anything from photography to videography. If you find that you want to learn more of a broadcasting perspective of communications you can take the specialized courses for broadcasting which includes a focus on Saints TV. Which is our Friday video announcements which are treated as a news show.

The Comm Tech classes

For Communications Technology here at SDCI we off four different classes. We have TGJ 2O, which is the grade 10 class, TGJ 3O, TGJ 3M, which are both grade 11 classes, and TGJ 4M, which is grade 12 class. Each of these classes will focus on communications technology from a media perspective. As you take the different levels of each class you will take what you've learned in the previous class in order to expand your skills and knowledge.

Throughout the Communication technology classes students will focus on learning about video production, digital photo editing, audio production, creating graphics and so much more. Students will use their knowledge from all aspects and be able to create anything from movie styled trailers, radio commercials, record their own music and even try out creating their own videos with special effects like in Hollywood movies.

The Broadcasting Classes

There are two courses that you can take for broadcasting, both the TGV3M and the TGV4M courses. In each of these courses students will examine communications technology from a media prospective.

Both classes will get a chance to work on projects for Saints TV. Throughout the semester you will get the opportunity to edit and produce content that will air live to the school on our weekly broadcast, where we showcase staff, students and the many different events going on here at SDCI.

During the course you will also get to learn all about the areas of TV, video and even media protection. Along with that you will also get to learn about radio, graphics, and broadcast journalism as well! All put together with so much more!

We offer two clubs that branch off from Communications Technology. There are many different aspects to each club to be a part of. We offer Saints TV, which is an in school TV/ news broadcast every Friday in place of announcements as well as Showcase SDCI, which is a actual TV show, where we interview staff, students, community members and alumni that airs on Rogers TV.
