Math Finding Percent of Whole Number (1 strategy)
50% of a number/value is half of the value.
Example: 50% of 240 is 120
25% of a number/value is "half of half" the value.
Example: 50% of 240 is 120 so 25% is half of 120, which is 60!
(you can also divide by 4 to get 25%)
75% of a number/value is the combination of 50% and 25%.
Example: 120 (50%) + 60 (25%), which is 120 + 60 = 180
10% of a number decreases the value by 1 place value since each place value is 10x less than the place value to the left. (10% is the same as multiplying by 0.1)
Example:
10% of 240 = 24 10% of 24 = 2.4
5% of a number is half of what 10% is. By finding 10% (see above) you just need to half your 10% answer.
Example:
10% of 240 is 24 so 5% of 240 = 12
15% of a number can be found by combining 10% and 5%.
Example: 10% of 240 is 24 and 5% is 12. So 15% is 24 + 12 = 36.
10% of 240 is 24 so 5% of 240 = 12
1% of a number decreases the digits by 2 place values since each place value is 10x less than the place value to the left. (1% is the same as multiplying by 0.o1 or dividing by 100)
Example:
1% of 240 = 2.4
