Follow the email confirmation to add classes and students.
Start by building a story board around a topic. Use the Story board sheet to map out images, characters and text for your story
Step 1: Start by Creating a character
Students need to:
Log into the class
Create a password
Create their character using the Gameboard and Blocks
Once the student is ready to capture their character on the Gameboard, use the app to Create a new Character. Tap the Capture button, and move your entire board into the devices's camera view.
Use the BLOXELS Story Builder cards if you have them to help you with character ideas.These cards will help you with creating characters, enemies , things to collect in your journey and create an environment.
Once you create a character its accessible in your library
Use the building grid worksheet or the Bloxels Board to build characters and image artifacts for your game
Step 2: Once you have created a character, add animation states for the WALK and JUMP states of your character.
Once your character is created use the IDLE, WALK and JUMP states to edit your character for each action.
Use the Quick Pallete at the bottom of the screen to copy and paste each character.
The more you animate the character in this step, the better it will look in the game.
Tap back on the characters first frame then tap the Copy button to copy the character to the clip board
Tape the WALK button state. Tap the PASTE button.
Use the undo, redo, erase copy and paste buttons, transformation arrows and the color wheel to edit and animate your character to look like it is walking.
You can tap the green PLAY button at any time to test out your characters animation states. Tap the blue EDIT buttopn to get back to the Character Builder.
Tap the COPY button to copy your characters frame to your clipboard
Tap the JUMP state. Create a jump move.
Tap FALL state and create a falling position.
Be sure to click on the Untitled character name when done and name your character.
Build as many characters as you need , based on your back story.
Step 3: Build your layout - use the gameboard to build your first room. Create a new game in the app and take a picture to capture your room
To edit- go back to the builder and use the apps edit tools
Teacher can add pre-made assets such as characters and backgrounds to the class through the Bloxels.edu website. Students will then have those assets available to them in the Bloxels.edu app . They can select a pre-made character or scene and edit it for their own games.
Select the Background icon at the top of the BloxelsEDU screen
Select Create New background
Go to the library icon to choose an asset background from your library if you don’t want to make one from scratch
Choose Asset Pack and select a background, then hit Remix and Open to add it to your background screen
Step 4: Use the + at the bottom of background screen to add art to your Quick Pallette
You can also use the Game board and colored blocks to build characters and assets (art) , game elements that you can add to your game by capturing them with the CAPTURE BUTTON in the app.
Games are made up of 169 rooms on a 13x3 grid.Rooms are made up of 169 game elements on a 13 x 13 grid. A game is 13 rooms high by 13 rooms wide. The middle is the player start position.
Step 5: You can use the student workbook to map out your entire story including characters, actions and artwork.
Putting it all together. Once you have created or selected a background and art and characters with animation you are ready for the Game Builder icon to put it all together.
Click on the dashed lines at the top right of the screen.Click on Builder then
Choose create new game
Click on the default character icon in the middle of the screen. Then select your own character from My Stuff or the class library
Step 6: Choose a background and music.
Name your game then select the gear icon
Add items to the Quick Pallette that you want to use in your game
Use the Quick Pallete items to replace sections of the boxes you create in the game
Tools in the Game Builder include:
Story Blocks let you add text to a game. When you add a text block use the hand button at the bottom to see the text. You can also use the white end flag block to end a game.
Yellow blocks are collectibles for your character $ icon
Pink blocks are Power Ups that give the character special powers (lightning bolt). There is a heart power up to get back lives you have lost while playing. You can also swap characters using a power up
Purple blocks are enemies . Two types-- walking and flying enemies. To get rid of enemies characters just have to jump on their heads.
Orange blocks (star icon) allow you to pick them up using the hand icon in the game playing area. You can use them to create a bridge to go over obstacles like fire
As you create and edit your game be sure to move your characters back to the start position.
Use the Green Play button to test your game as you make it.
Using the Gameboard, create a room for your game using the blocks. Select "Create a New Game" in the app.
Different color blocks are assigned different meanings throughout the game. For example:
Green- Terrain
Red- Hazard
Blue- Water
Purple- Enemies
Orange- Moveable objects
Yellow- Collectibles
Pink- Power-ups
White- Storyblocks
To place your character into the newly created world, select the panel at the top of the game to bring down the game figuration settings. Choose your character and background and explore your game!
Teacher can see all of the assets and games students create in the Bloxels.EDU hub. They can also remove games there.
Teachers can also award badges to students and send them messages in the HUB.
Teachers can also add ASSET packs for the class to access in creating their games. These include characters,
Teachers can turn on a classes access to the Arcade.This allows students in a class to share each others games once they are completed. Teacher must approve a game in the HUB before it is officially in the Arcade.
