Materials Used in Board Games

Materials used in this lesson:
Students will use the board games in their classrooms that they used for Lessons 1 and 2.
Create a scavenger hunt worksheet of the different types of materials used in board games. Have the students use the worksheet to match the materials list with the games they have played. Have students identify the role that each material serves in playing the board game.

Introductory Mini-Lesson
After the teacher directed mini lesson on game materials, students will work in groups to conduct a scavenger hunt using the Student Scavenger Hunt Materials Worksheet to identify the different materials used in each game they have played. They will also identify the role each material serves in the playing of each game.
Mini-Lesson Continued:
Teacher will support group work as needed during the scavenger hunt.
Once completing the Materials Scavenger Hunt , students will share their findings with the class. Teacher will use the smart board or Elmo to create a graphic organizer of each games and the materials used, along with their purpose.

Teacher will then prompt a discussion about similarities and differences found across the games in materials and their usage. Students will create a Venn Diagram with the teacher on similarities and difference of game materials.

Important Question for Discussion: At the end of this lesson, students will look again at their story narrative they wrote in lesson 1. In their Game Journals they will identify game materials they might use if they were turning their story into a game.
