The Year 2 students recently took the center stage with a vibrant assembly performance showcasing the rich and diverse cultural heritage of Indonesia. This assembly centered around the concept of Cultural Diversity and Identity, encouraging students to appreciate the variety of traditions that form Indonesia’s national identity.
The performance began with the graceful Tor-tor dance from North Sumatra, a traditional dance characterized by its expressive movements and cultural significance. Next, the excitement continued with the playful Cublak-Cublak Suweng, a traditional game from Java. The children participated in this classic game, which involves keen observation and teamwork, fostering both fun and social interaction.
In a hands-on creative segment, the students showcased the art of batik-making from Kalimantan. They role-played the intricate process of designing and coloring batik patterns, highlighting this craft that is deeply rooted in Indonesian culture. We move to the coastal region of Wakatobi Island, Sulawesi, by introducing the Bajau People, known as “Sea nomads”. Finally, the performance concluded with an energetic display of traditional music from Papua, featuring the Tifa drum, followed by singing the national song: Dari Sabang Sampai Merauke.
Through this experience, students were being open-minded by exploring different cultures and communicators through their performance. This assembly not only celebrated Indonesia’s rich heritage but also nurtured students’ empathy and global awareness, inspiring them to value cultural differences within their community and beyond.
