✨Library Learning Journey
The library is a place where students learn step by step to become confident readers and information users.
Year 1: Students learn the difference between fiction and nonfiction books. They begin to understand that books can be imaginary or factual, and that the library offers both enjoyment and learning.
Year 2: Students are introduced to call numbers. They learn how books are organized on the shelves, which helps them find what they need more easily.
Upper Primary: Students use the Follett Destiny Library System to search for books and digital resources. They also start learning how to recognize reliable and unreliable information.
At Global Jaya School, information literacy and a passion for reading go hand in hand. In the Secondary years, the Library plays a vital role in supporting students to become skilled researchers and lifelong learners. Through collaboration with MYP Core, I&S, Science, and the Extended Essay Coordinator, students are guided step by step to develop research skills, strengthen academic honesty, and broaden their access to knowledge. Alongside this, the Friends of the Library (FLY) program encourages students to engage creatively with literature and promote a reading culture in the school community.
Year 7: Understanding Sources and Works Cited
In collaboration with MYP Core and Individuals & Societies (I&S), Year 7 students are introduced to the fundamentals of information literacy. They learn to distinguish between credible and non-credible sources, identify primary and secondary sources, and practice creating a works cited page manually using the correct format.
Year 8: Developing Citations and Captions
Working with I&S and Science, Year 8 students practice creating in-text citations, adding captions to figures, and reviewing the process of building a works cited page manually.
Year 9: Introducing Citation Tools
With support from the Library and I&S, Year 9 students begin using citation generators. They start with NoodleTools Express as an introduction before transitioning to the advanced version in Year 10.
Year 10: Research Skills for the Personal Project
In partnership with MYP Core, Year 10 students are guided through research for their Personal Project. They learn how to create a National Library of Indonesia account to access their e-resources and practice using the advanced features of NoodleTools to organize their citations effectively.
Year 11: Extended Essay Research Support
As part of the Diploma Programme, the Library works with the Extended Essay (EE) Coordinator to deliver research sessions that help students refine their strategies and strengthen their academic writing.
Ongoing Support: MLA Checks
During summative weeks, the Library also offers MLA Check-in sessions during lunch time for students who need extra guidance with citations, whether they are new to Global Jaya School or still building their confidence in academic writing.
Beyond research, the Library fosters a love for reading and creativity through the Friends of the Library (FLY) program. This After School Activity (ASA) brings together 32 enthusiastic Secondary students, supported by supervising teachers, to create engaging and imaginative library projects.
This month, FLY members are working on a Fantasy-themed display board, combining their ideas and creativity to make it both visually engaging and inspiring for the school community. The project is set to be completed in the first week of October. Afterward, the group will turn their attention to preparing for the much-anticipated Book Week Challenge, where their efforts will help bring the joy of reading to the wider student body.
Through these stages, students see the library not only as a place to read but also as a guide to becoming independent and lifelong learners.
