Dear Global Jaya Community,
October was a busy month for our Global Jaya community. Students went on Week Without Walls, completed their MYP Interdisciplinary Units, Service as Action experiences, and participated in Book week. Teachers were also hard at work. On the full day professional development, teachers either participated in an IB workshop or they were planning for next year’s 6 students transitioning to the MYP. This gave all our teachers the opportunity to collaborate and inquire about their units. Teachers also activate their ATL skills when they communicated, reflected, and researched best practices to vertically align their scope and sequence as a MYP 1-5 or GJS Years 6-10 programme.
We also welcome you all on campus November 6th to view the active learning that students engaged with during Week Without Walls. The Interdisciplinary Unit is a key requirement for all MYP students. They must combine two or more subject areas of knowledge and create a product to demonstrate their understanding. Finally, they reflect on their interdisciplinary learning and how the synergy of subjects broadened their perspectives.
Finally, the end of October saw the library host the Book Week activities with DEAR (Drop Everything and Read), book fair, and guest authors. Year 7-9 engaged with author Lucille Abendanon, author of The Songbird and the Rambutan Tree while Year 10 engaged with author and graphic novelist Yeimena Yee, author of Monster.
We are looking forward to seeing you at the Diploma Programme option night on November 11th for year 10 students and at the IDU Exhibition on November 6th.
See you there!
Warmest regards,
Ibu Sue Menand
