This month marked the exciting start of a brand-new Unit of Inquiry (UOI 2) in Reception: “How the World Works”, with a special focus on colors and light. This unit invites students to explore the science behind natural phenomena in a fun, age-appropriate manner, starting with something they encounter every day: color!
To celebrate the launch of the unit, our Reception students came to school dressed in clothes that represented their favorite colors. The classroom was bursting with vibrant reds, bright yellows, calming blues, soft pinks, and every color in between. It was a truly joyful sight to see!
The children were eager to share why they chose their colors, and their responses were both thoughtful and expressive. Some students chose pink because they think it’s pretty, while other students chose blue because it makes them feel calm. One student mentioned that they love orange because it reminds them of the color of taxis in Korea, while another said purple matches her. These personal reflections opened the door for a discussion about how colors can connect to our emotions, memories, and personalities.
This activity not only gave students the chance to express themselves creatively but also helped build their communication skills and confidence. Through hands-on experiments, stories, art activities, and outdoor exploration, students will engage with the world around them in meaningful and memorable ways. We’re so proud of how the children have embraced this new learning journey with curiosity and enthusiasm.
