In Kindergarten, we wrapped up our Unit of Inquiry (UOI) 1: How We Express Ourselves with a fun and delicious activity — baking gingerbread cookies! Since the gingerbread cookie in our story ran away and was eaten by the wolf, the children decided to make their own. The classrooms were filled with the warm aroma of ginger and the joyful laughter of our little bakers as they rolled up their sleeves and got to work!
After weeks of exploring stories and characters, the children brought one of their favorite stories to life. With clean hands ready to mix, they carefully measured the ingredients, stirred the dough, and used cookie cutters to shape their gingerbread men.
The excitement grew as the cookies baked in the oven, filling the room with warmth and anticipation. When the cookies were ready, the children decorated them with icing, wrapped them nicely so the gingerbread man wouldn’t run away, and they could bring the gingerbread home!
This hands-on experience was more than just fun. It helped the children develop teamwork, practice fine motor skills, and follow step-by-step instructions while engaging their senses. The best part? Sharing their tasty creations with friends and teachers!
The Gingerbread Cookie Day was a sweet ending to our Kindergarten project, celebrating creativity, learning, and joyful memories.
