October 27–31, 2025
This week, Primary students at Global Jaya School embarked on a wonderful journey through books as we celebrated Book Week 2025 with the theme “Book an Adventure.” The week was filled with laughter, creativity, and imagination, bringing stories to life in every classroom.
Before Book Week officially began, the excitement started with the Pre–Book Week competitions. Teachers joined the Extreme Reading Challenge, showing their love for books in fun and creative ways, while students participated in both the Extreme Reading Challenge and the Hall of Books competition, where they shared their favorite fiction and non-fiction book reviews and recommendations. These activities built excitement across the school and helped set the stage for an amazing week ahead.
The week kicked off on Monday with a Library Scavenger Hunt and artistic class activities, including Mask Making for Kindergarten–Year 2 and Book Cover Redesigns for Years 3–6. On Tuesday, students competed in the lively Book Battle in English and joined a Virtual Guest Speaker Session with the “Spooky Middle Grade” authors Fleur Bradley, Rachel M. Marsh, and Anastasia Garcia, who shared stories about their spooky inspirations and writing journeys.
On Wednesday, the Book Fair opened and continued through Friday, giving students a chance to explore and purchase exciting new reads. The day also featured the Book Battle in Bahasa and engaging sessions with authors Johanes Park and Jessica Leman, the authors and illustrators of Magical Sweet Gula. Their presentations inspired creativity through two special topics — comic creation for Years 3–6 and storytelling for Kindergarten–Year 2, helping students see how words and imagination come together to create meaning.
Thursday featured another Spooky Middle Grade virtual author session for Years 5–6 with Darcy Marks, Ally Russell, and Anastasia Garcia, and the much-loved Buddy Reading activity, where Secondary students and Year 5–6 students visited Primary classrooms to share stories with younger students. It was a joyful exchange that brought the school community closer together through books.
The week ended in high spirits on Friday with the Book Character Dress-Up Day. The gymnasium was filled with colourful and creative costumes as students and teachers came dressed as their favorite book characters. The Book Fair continued throughout the day, closing a truly magical week of reading and adventure.
Book Week 2025 reminded us all that books can take us anywhere — and that reading is always an adventure worth sharing!
October 27–31, 2025
The Secondary students of Global Jaya School celebrated Book Week 2025 with great enthusiasm, embracing the theme “Book an Adventure.” Each day offered new opportunities to read, explore, and connect through literature, making the week a memorable experience for everyone involved.
Before Book Week began, students prepared for the Book Project – Adventure Challenge, an optional creative project that invited Years 7–9 students to design artwork, models, or multimedia inspired by books they had read during MYP Core. These projects were proudly displayed in the library during the week.
The celebration started on Monday with DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) sessions during English classes, giving students a few quiet minutes to enjoy reading for pleasure. Later that day, Years 10 and 12 joined a Kahoot literary quiz and an inspiring BookTalk session with Reimena Yee, an award-winning graphic novelist who spoke about storytelling, art, and creativity.
On Tuesday, Years 7–9 enjoyed their own BookTalk session with the author of The Songbird and the Rambutan Tree, Lucille Abendanon, who encouraged students to see reading and writing as ways of exploring the world. A lively Kahoot competition and a fun Book Hunt in the library kept the excitement going afterward.
Wednesday gave students time to focus on their Book Projects and visit the Book Fair, which continued through Friday. Thursday featured the warm and meaningful Buddy Reading activity, where Secondary students, together with Year 5–6 students, visited Primary classrooms to read stories and connect through books. After school, many students proudly submitted their finished projects for display.
Finally, Friday brought originality and colour with Dress-Up Day, as students, teachers, and staff came dressed as their favorite book or comic characters. The day was filled with fun, laughter, and energy — a perfect way to conclude a week that truly captured the magic of reading.
Book Week 2025 reminded everyone that books are more than stories — they are journeys that connect us, inspire us, and help us grow.
