In Unit 2, The Year 4 students explored the theme "Sharing the Planet" with the central idea “Sustainability requires collaboration and the responsible management of resources.”
Throughout this unit, students developed their understanding through three key areas of focus:
Factors that encourage or discourage responsible resource management.
The impact of resource distribution on individuals and communities.
Strategies for creating sustainable change.
As part of their meaningful learning experience, Year 4 students had the opportunity to welcome a special guest speaker, Ibu Dewi, one of the parents from the class. During her visit, she presented an engaging session on the natural resource map of Indonesia, explaining various types of non-renewable resources such as natural gas, petroleum, coal, minerals, tin, aluminum, and forest products.
Through her presentation, Ibu Dewi helped students understand how these natural resources are extracted, processed, and utilized in everyday life. At the beginning of the session, she also introduced the two main categories of natural resources renewable and non-renewable and emphasized the importance of maintaining a balance between them to support sustainability on our planet.
In addition to providing factual knowledge, Ibu Dewi encouraged students to think critically about how individuals and communities can play a role in using natural resources responsibly. She concluded her session with a fun and interactive quiz, which kept the students highly engaged and enthusiastic.
Throughout the activity, students demonstrated great curiosity and participation. They eagerly asked questions, shared their thoughts, and responded enthusiastically to the quiz. This session became a valuable learning experience that helped students develop a deeper awareness of the importance of using natural resources wisely and responsibly, as well as their role in protecting the environment for a sustainable future.
On Friday, September 26, the Year 4 students presented a short drama performance titled “Technology: Our Friend and Our Challenge.” This theme was inspired by the first learning unit they had completed, which focused on understanding technology and its role in our lives.
During the performance, every student took part by playing different and meaningful roles. Some students performed scenes under the theme “Technology as a Tool,” showing how technology is used in various situations — such as during online learning, family video calls, and medical practices where doctors rely on technology to help patients.
Another group of students performed a scene that explored “The Impact of ICT on Individuals and Societies,” highlighting both the positive effects and the challenges that come with the use of digital tools in daily life. The final group carried out a campaign scene, encouraging the audience to be responsible and wise digital citizens who use technology thoughtfully across different areas of life.
Through this engaging and educational performance, the Year 4 students aimed to share an important message — that technology plays a crucial role in many aspects of our world, but it must be used with awareness and care. The performance helped both the students and the audience reflect on how to use technology more wisely, responsibly, and meaningfully in everyday life.
