Dear Global Jaya Community,
The month of October has been one of activities, sports, travel, celebrations, MSCs, and term break. On the one hand, our community has been extremely busy with life outside of the classroom, and on the other hand, we continue our focus on teaching and learning inside the classroom. In other words, the balance of what it means to be a student.
Moving into November, we continue with a mix of extracurricular activities and classroom focus. Of course, the difference for Term 2 is that there are no holidays from now until December. Thus as both a Head of School and a parent, I encourage you to remind your children that school is a marathon, not a sprint. Help them to find balance in and outside of school. Celebrate successes and encourage reflection when the results are not what was expected.
As alwaysy, thank you for your support and please enjoy the October edition of Kontak.
Take care,
Dr. Howard Menand
Head of School
PB Jaya Raya
We are thrilled to announce that PB Jaya Raya has partnered with GJS to use our running track after school for physical training. It’s likely that you may see some of these top athletes on campus in their efforts to maintain their physical fitness. We are also exploring opportunities to tap into their coaching experience and expertise to help support our badminton program.
Cell Phone Usage Survey
Our team continues to discuss and assess the appropriate level of cell phone usage on campus and ways to ensure our community is a digitally safe place. As we know from parent feedback at our recent Cup of Community, there is room to enhance and strengthen our current cell phone practices, which is an area of unified agreement between parents and school. At the same time, in our efforts to revise our phone policy, we would like to create a coordinated effort between home and school that ensures our students develop age-appropriate phone practices that can be followed whether on or off campus.
To better help us develop a thoughtful and intentional cell phone policy, we need your feedback. We ask that you please complete the cell phone survey below to provide us with relevant data to inform our next steps.
Finally, at our Coffee Morning on December 2nd, we will host a workshop where participants can learn about cell phone usage, social media, and help us to develop the appropriate alignment between home and school when it comes to cell phone usage. We hope to see you there!
