This term, Kindergarten is learning about personal journeys and school experiences in relation to Where We are in Place and Time. They explored their own timelines from birth until the present and linked their discoveries to their understanding of physical and mental development. To reflect on and remember what they have learned, the children are creating scrapbooks filled with photos and artefacts of their journey, both in and outside of school. Each of the students decorated their own book with arts and crafts materials and learned how to layout the pictures and talk about what they are making.
In this second Unit of Inquiry, some parents volunteered to be guest speaker for our Kindergarten classes. They helped the flow of the unit by providing information about their child as part of the personal journey discussion. The presentations supported student understanding about the meaning of experience and journey. During the presentations, the children also had the opportunity to ask questions which developed their questioning skills.
To complete the experience, we took a field trip at Kampung Main Cipulir! The children had Outbound adventures as you can see from the photos. It was really nice to see our little students being brave risk-takers by trying things that required being high up off the ground, a good use of balance, and a positive management of feelings. They all had the courage to try and were so proud of themselves and each other by overcoming their initial fears. Well done, Kindergarten!
