Reception students had an inquiry into pumpkins where we integrated with Mathematics, Languages, Art, Science, and Social Studies. First, we talked about how pumpkins are associated with Halloween celebrations and how people in different countries celebrate them. The teachers carved out our pumpkin and made a Jack O’Lantern. Then we estimated how many seeds our pumpkin had. Our teachers helped us cut them and we counted the seeds together. We planted the seeds in our garden and made pumpkin cheese mini pies from the pulp. Last, we visited each others’ classrooms and Trick or Treated using the Pumpkin bags we made during Arts and Crafts. It was such an amazing learning experience for us and we became knowledgeable throughout our journey.
