This year's Book Week theme was 'Reading is My Secret Power'. Reading is definitely a magical journey, especially for children. During Book Week students were challenged to join some competitions; ‘Extreme Reading’, ‘Book Cover Design’ and ‘Book-in-Jar’. We had many interested students who participated and we would like to congratulate all winners.
Besides the competitions, we also had a book swap activity where students were able to bring in their old books and swap them with their friends’ books. Any books that remained were donated to local schools as part of a CAS programme. The students were also entertained by different authors and storytellers, including Shoba Chugani, Jeff Gere, Deepa Kiran, and the Infinito Singers featuring AyoDI.
The enthusiasm of students was evident throughout the week. Students purchased books from the Book Fair, and redeemed vouchers won from the competitions. Our teachers also selected a variety of books from the Book Fair to enhance the library collections. While there were many highlights throughout the week, students particularly enjoyed the story presented by Btari Kinara from Year 4 and the presentation from one of our GJS alumni, Rain Chudori.
In addition, the Primary students participated in a dress-up day. They wore interesting costumes reflecting their favourite characters from a treasured book.
Thank you to GJS Head of School, school Principals, all parents, students, teachers and staff who supported Book Week this year.
