As part of the UOI 4 theme, How We Express Ourselves, our Kindergarteners explored many ways and mediums to express themselves. One of the mediums we introduced to our students was using paint and paper. Smush paintings were one way they could share their ideas using simple and easy means while still stimulating their creativity.
Teachers gave students a piece of paper already folded in half so students could begin exploring smush painting! Students put drops of various colored paints on one side of the paper. Once they were satisfied with the colors on one side, they folded the paper and opened it again to see the colorful results.
The students were very excited while doing this activity. It was especially thrilling and exciting when they opened to see how their surprise creations turned out. The students were happy with the results and showed agency to do more smush painting; it was such a joy to see!
In Week 7, students learned how people express their feelings and thoughts non-verbally. They learned to communicate ideas to other people, such as family members and friends. Some expressed love, and longing, while others expressed gratitude to their loved ones. With teacher guidance, Kindy students learned to write their feelings and thoughts on cards.
To develop their fine motor skills, students learned how to decorate cards. They folded and cut the coloured paper into flowers or other shapes they liked. After that, they used glue to stick the decoration on their cards. Voila!
