As we may already know, TSAN or Teacher and Staff Appreciation Nights has been going on for years. And just last Friday, after almost 3 years of no event due to the pandemic, the PTA was once again able to host the TSAN in the GJS theater. For some, they may be wondering what FOH stands for. In the world of performing art, we understand that FOH means front of house, which is the part of a performance venue that is open to the public. In theatres and live music venues, it consists of the auditorium and foyers, as opposed to the stage and backstage areas.
This year, I am very fortunate to have been appointed by the head of PTA to be in charge of the FOH. While I have been working both on and behind the stage’s curtain since I was only 6 years old, this event hit differently, especially when you work in the FOH. The audiences of TSAN are people who are very dear to the PTA’s family heart and we wanted to make sure that we gave an all-out performance, ensuring everyone was entertained and who, when they departed, did so with a content heart.
I was very moved by the amount of support received from students and parents who were willing to participate in making TSAN 2022 happen. You are awesome and I cannot thank all of you enough. The performers were top notch and I cannot believe how professional everyone was.
It was also a great experience to work together with the performers through the rundown minute by minute to make sure everything looked flawless and entertaining for the audiences.
Listening to the performers' needs, making sure the performers were comfortable with the blocking, and choosing the right song, and lighting to suit each of the performances while still following the whole theme was not easy, but working hand in hand with the PTA TSAN Event team, show director, Pak Herman (our trusty sound engineer) and Pak Udin as our very creative lighting engineer made everything very fluid. It was enlightening to work together with all of them, to see such energy and dedication in making sure the show went well and was entertaining at the same time.
As the audience clapped, I would instruct the team to get MCs or the next performer ready to go out and perform to follow the bumper, music and lighting cue. It feels so surreal, to have the privilege to be able to orchestrate all that. Performances are judged by the number of applauses, the reaction of the crowd, and to top it off, the standing ovation. At the end of the show, seeing all the happy faces and people still talking about the event the next day was the best reward for me.
I am beyond proud to have been a part of the team that made TSAN 2022 happen. I hope everyone enjoyed the show and felt the love.
Much love from the PTA to all the leaving teachers! We know that our paths crossed for a reason and wish you great luck in your next life's endeavour.
See you at the next PTA event!
