Aira:
Out of all the guest speakers my favorite was the student who was doing quantum computer research for his PhD. It was really interesting to hear what he had to say about it, it feels different from reading research papers found online. Other than that, I’d say I learned a lot from all the guest speakers about our responsibilities, and that despite living alone we need to take care of them. It really made me realize how different highschool and university life is going to be.
Arvin:
My favorite guest speaker was the PhD student who is taking biotechnology studies. The teacher’s choice of inviting him to our meeting was a moment that I enjoyed because I was able to ask him many questions about the difficulty and content of taking biotechnology. I was also informed about the general experience of taking a PhD and if it’s really worth it.
Rika:
Generally speaking, the variety of guest speakers provided all of us with insight regarding the applicability of chemistry in the future. I imagine this information was particularly pertinent to individuals who intend to pursue a science/chemistry-related degree in the near future. However, the speakers also presented us with information that I believe proved to be beneficial in improving our understanding of university life and education, as well as the various paths we can choose to pursue after a bachelor’s degree.
Agha:
It’s very inspiring to see the vastly different careers people can adopt in the field of Chemistry. Their presentations gave us a valuable glimpse into the real-world applications of Chemistry and the situations we may see ourselves in the future. I also enjoyed listening to the international successes of fellow alumni who were in our same exact shoes just a few years ago.
Beebee:
All of the guest speakers were very engaging and insightful. Their presentations gave us insight into our possible future careers, where our research alone won't provide. As someone pursuing a career in STEM, it is interesting to see where and what type of knowledge will apply in the industry. My two favorite speakers worked in the packaging industry and environmental science. Their presentations made me think about the industry I want to work in and helped me appreciate the chemistry involved in my everyday things.
Ory:
Having the opportunity to meet professionals from various industries has been immense and valuable, giving a glimpse of how chemistry is being adopted and applied in the respective industry. Furthermore, these speakers discuss the use of chemistry in today’s time and give an insightful discussion on where chemistry is heading in the future, giving me a better understanding of the opportunity that lies in the future that I want to pursue.
Rizqy:
I personally think that these special lessons gave us a valuable opportunity to understand how chemistry is being applied in each individual’s industry. Hearing from these wise individuals allowed me to get a glimpse into the bigger world of chemistry that is outside of the classroom. Their engaging presentations allowed me to understand how versatile chemistry is and how it is used in a variety of different industries. I was also able to ask them questions regarding my own curiosity of each individual’s industry and it helped me get a better understanding of what I may want to do in the future.
