Wow, how time flies! Incredibly, our miraculous Kindergarten learners have been engaging in Home-Based Learning for an entire school
year! We are so grateful for all the support from parents and students.
Teachers planned two festivities for our children to celebrate and conclude this unprecedented year and fascinating fourth unit of
inquiry. The first event was the Play-Through, held at school on Tuesday, 8 June 2021. Students met their classroom and PE teachers
and others who graced us with their presence as guest speakers this year. During the Play-Through activity, students were given a chance
to engage in games at four different stations. They participated in tie- dye, Hopscotch, exercise with the PE team, and the Pop the Balloon
game!
The health protocol mandated by the school was at the forefront of our minds during planning. Teachers made sure there was no physical
touch at each activity, and GJS provided hand sanitizer. Students also came at staggered times to avoid crowds, and teachers were required
to do an antigen test before the event.
The second activity was the Unit of Inquiry 4 Celebration! Kindergarten students proudly performed to demonstrate what they learned over the past ten weeks. Under the transdisciplinary theme How We Express Ourselves, students explored various ways people express ideas, feelings, and thoughts. They chose one interested-based activity such as painting, dancing, singing, sculpting, acting, physical activities, and role-playing for the performance. What made it so special was students performed it in front of children from other year-level classes. The teachers were so proud of their bravery and confidence during the performance! What risk-takers and communicators!
Kindergarten students were also reflective while preparing for their culminating activity. Students experienced trial and error through many practices submitted on Seesaw and during synchronous sessions to be more confident and create their best performance. Kindergarten students are indeed growing up! We look forward to seeing how they grow in Reception!
