As an introduction to our current unit of inquiry under the transdisciplinary theme of “How We Express Ourselves”, and also as preparation for our Story Fest, Year 2 engaged in exploration weeks where students explored how to express their feelings and thoughts through activities and discussions in small groups, each week having a different focus.
Students explored how to express themselves through writing (being an author and a poet), through movement and expression (being a dancer and a mime), and through voice (being a singer and a puppeteer). They have developed their creative thinking skills and communication skills through these exploration weeks.

In Book week, students were also introduced to the idea that all stories have messages or big ideas. Students brought their favorite books and shared them to friends. They explained why they liked the book, and what message they thought the book was sharing. Students then explored various books (picture books, pop-up books, books with no words) through our discussions.
