Hello Parents,
The first full home-based learning of the school year has finally wrapped up! I believe we all feel relieved. Each of us has proven ourselves to be resilient community members who can deal with our circumstances and difficulties throughout the year. As a result, we become stronger individuals in our role and become the pillar of strength for others around us.
With the plan to reopen at the beginning of the school year and the implementation of blended learning, next year will, of course, be full of other challenges for all of us. The transition back to school next year will require a collective effort from the Primary community members to work together to make this happen. As we look forward, we will focus on how we can support the social-emotional needs of our students and community members. This will become our focus during the first few weeks of the next school year before building back to our academic focus. We will also stress the importance of maintaining our health and stamina as this is needed to sustain our participation in face to face learning. Along wIth the strict implementation of the health protocols, this focus will make everyone feel safe and supported in their learning journey.
With that said, please rest assured that we will adhere to all the government guidelines. Parents will also be given a choice whether to allow their child to attend face-to-face learning or remain with home-based learning. We will detail the plan and how this will look at each year level during our year level meeting with parents before the beginning of the next school year. At this time, we would like our community members to take a well-deserved break and enjoy quality family time, away from the gadgets.
Last but not least, I would like to congratulate everyone for their dedication and commitment in making this school year a successful experience full of learning, gratefulness, love, caring, empathy, and much more. Please allow me to conclude with this simple end-of-year poem I created when I sat at the back of my late grandmother’s house during the holiday a few months ago. I reflected and felt very proud of what our students have been showing throughout these difficult times. I hope the message I tried to convey in this poem can get across to you, my beloved students. Enjoy your holiday!
Today I saw bamboo trees
(A poem for my students)
Today I saw bamboo trees who were blown by the wind
Bending their trunks in a graceful move
Embracing the wind, not resisting
Today I saw bamboo trees who were blown by the wind
Dancing, swaying, and whistling
Falling many times but never shy to rise up and face the sun
Today I saw bamboo trees who were blown by the wind
Their roots spread deep and far
No matter how big the wind blew. Still standing strong
Today I saw bamboo trees who were blown by the wind
And suddenly, I was reminded of you
Thank you parents for your ongoing support!
Warm Regards,
Ibu Dewi
Dear Global Jaya Families, Students and Staff,
It has been my pleasure to be your part of the Primary School Principal team this academic school year. It has been a very interesting first year at GJS under a pandemic situation. Despite the fact we have not met “in person”, GJS has become my new home. I hope to meet students within a normal classroom setting soon and greet the GJS community in person. I am so proud to be a part of the GJS family! It has been wonderful to virtually see students grow both academically and socially in the HBL setting.
The 2020-2021 Home-Based Learning school year has been filled with great reflection, growth and success. We continued our efforts to support student success through our ongoing HBL adjustments and modifications within our Units of Inquiry, inquiry-based Math lessons and language development in English and Bahasa Indonesia. We celebrated student successes throughout the year during our year level assemblies, PYP Exhibition, classroom projects, presentations, and much more!
Also, we focused on developing our students holistically through the teaching of mindfulness to support their social-emotional growth within our HBL setting. We reflected and realised the need to adjust and support our students during these unprecedented times. Additionally, via our amazing specialist programmes, Physical Education, Art, and Music, our students were allowed to have a variety of experiences to demonstrate their many hidden talents. And there are many! Of course, all of these components are under the umbrella of our PYP program that is our framework to ensure student academic and social growth. Our staff worked tirelessly to support every child in becoming inquirers who are reflective and lifelong learners. THANK YOU to all our teachers, junior teachers and teaching assistants for their hard work and commitment to our students and their future.
However, we do not do this alone. We have incredible parent support via our PTA and our year level representatives. Thank you to ALL our parents for their contributions and ongoing support at home. This year, we asked our parents to become risk-takers and step out of their comfort zones. And you all did this amazingly! Together, as a team, we were able to support students beyond the virtual classroom!
Thank you again for such an interesting yet amazing year, and I truly look forward to continuing our work and efforts in the 2021-2022 school year!
Warm Regards,
