PLEDGE RUN
As the Global Jaya Student Council, we have always strived to unite all parts of the GJS community, from the student body and parents to teachers and other faculty members. To encourage this unity during the pandemic, the Student Council hosted the Hawks Pledge Run during the Term 3 break, from March 22 to March 28, 2021. The Pledge Run provided an opportunity for all members of the GJS community to participate in running or walking activities to raise money for SOS Children’s Villages, a charity dedicated to providing orphaned or abandoned children with homes and primary necessities.
The Hawks Pledge Run operated through a donor and tracking system through the event’s exclusive minisite and the application Aktivin. Upon registration, each runner would “pledge” the total distance they would run throughout the week. Participants could pledge between running 2.5, 5, 10, or 20 kilometres, with each kilometre raising 50 thousand rupiahs. These runners would then find donors such as friends or other family members that would donate money for their pledge through the event’s minisite. At the same time, the participant would record their distance through the activity app Aktivin. This way, the Hawks Pledge Run involved not only various members of the GJS community as runners but as donors as well.
Over the week-long course of the Hawks Pledge Run, 60 participants ran over 430 kilometres and raised above 15 million rupiahs. The event’s sponsors, Mahorahora Gula Aren and Medco Foundation, had also contributed to this donation. After the event, we sent out merchandise packages to each participant, thanking them for their support.
We posted participants’ pictures from the Hawks Pledge Run and information about the charity and our sponsors on the Student Council’s Instagram account, @gjscouncil. The event’s exclusive minisite can also be accessed through https://hawks.aktivin.id.

FUNDING PROGRAM FOR THE COMMUNITY IMPACTED BY THE FLOODS
Almost every year, the Student Council would host a funding program for the community impacted by the floods. Last school year, we provided donation space at school for students, staff and parents to donate their pre-loved items. As this year is online, we opened a few periods of donation via bank transfer to help those impacted by the floods.
From 25th February until 1st of March 2021, we opened a bank transfer donation to help our teachers impacted by the flood. We proudly collected Rp 21,150,000, which the Student Council Members use to buy items such as medicines (vitamin, paracetamol, Tolak Angin, Panadol), clothes, toiletries (toothpaste and brushes, towels, sanitary pads, diapers), blankets, medical masks and sanitisers. The Student Council sent these items to Ibu Nia’s community (which we were able to help 70 families there) and other Global Jaya community members who are also direct victims of the flood disaster.
Several weeks after, NTT (Nusa Tenggara Timur) was struck with a major flood and landslide disaster caused by the seroja tropical cyclone. The local community are in an emergency without access to basic needs like water and medicine. We opened donation like the previous period, but the money was donated to Yakkum Emergency unit, to help their aid the victims with food, blankets, medicines, masks, and health facilities. We opened the donation period from 12 April until 17 April 2021. We collected Rp 11,550,000 for this initiative, and it has been donated to the Yakkum Emergency unit.
Thank you to all Global Jaya School community for the genuine consideration and kind thoughts in wishing to lend a helping hand to our community. We hope that the Global Jaya Community can continue to influence the world around us positively.
