Student Experience Survey: Bathroom Follow Up
In order to continue to enhance the student experience and perception of their time at Global Jaya, we asked all students to complete a student experience survey in October.
Whilst there were many positives highlighted, and lots for us to celebrate, a small area that was highlighted to us was that some students felt a little unsafe in our bathrooms.
The child protection team have followed up on the concerns raised about feeling safe in bathrooms and can report the following actions have now been completed:
We met with student representatives in order to co-create essential agreements for use of student bathrooms. These have now been published in all student bathrooms throughout campus.
The CP team have completed an audit of all bathroom stalls across the entire campus in order to identify matters to be addressed such as loose locks or broken doors.
The child protection team will begin to monitor bathroom usage with occasional bathroom checks during the school day.
Coming up in Term Three: Seminars for Teens;
In collaboration with Good Practice, and in connection with our extended advisory curriculum, we plan to offer two seminars to our Secondary students in term three:
Sexual and Reproductive Health (years 9 - 12)
This will be an optional seminar offered to years 9 - 12 after the school day on Friday, 12th January, 14.40 - 15.40. A physician and a psychologist from Good Practice will lead a seminar that will cover sexual behaviours and activities, associated risks of such activities and ways in which students can protect themselves from such risks.
Students must receive parental consent in order to be able to attend this seminar. In order to support parents with their decision-making, a detailed letter of invitation will be sent to the parents of students in years 9 - 12.
How Puberty impacts the body and brain (years 7 & 8)
During an Extended Advisory class in February, students in years 7 and 8 will attend a seminar, presented by a physician and a psychologist, that will help them to understand the physical and psychological changes that they might be experiencing, and that are associated with puberty.
Parents of students in years 7 & 8 will receive a detailed letter explaining exactly what will be covered in this seminar in more detail, a little closer to the time.
If you have questions about these seminars, or would like to find out more about the additional ways in which we help to prepare our students for adulthood through our extended advisory curriculum, please email me at vicki@globaljaya.com
