On Friday, November 24, 2023, the Year 5 performed a drama production as part of the unit “How We Express Ourselves.” This drama production is an integrated learning experience between art, music, and language. Student agency is strongly encouraged in this unit by deciding the story, writing and modifying the script according to students' perspectives, creating screen and sound background, and making props. This process gives students a voice and choice in how to learn. Throughout the process of the drama production, students implement the ATL skills. They apply their research skills to find a story to perform, thinking skills when writing the script, social skills when collaborations are needed, communication skills to communicate their ideas, and self-management skills during the practices
As part of the culmination activity for the unit “How The World Works,” the Year 5 students first identified issues they would like to focus on, and then they tried to devise an equipment/tool that would provide a solution to their chosen issue. After deliberation, each class chose 2 designs that will be presented to the panel judges who were specially invited for this activity. Thank you to Pak Rully, our Dean of Students, and Pak Dodin from the Design department for allocating some of your time to be the panel judges
On top of everything we do, we also allocate some of our time to conduct CAT4 testing for our Year 5 students. CAT4 stands for Cognitive Abilities Test 4th Edition, a test that assesses a student’s abilities across four reasoning batteries: verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, non-verbal reasoning, and spatial reasoning. We use the CAT4 test results to identify academic potential, understand how a student thinks, determine where further support may be necessary, highlight any possible barriers to learning, set targets, and provide feedback to the teacher, the student, and the parents. Our Head of School, Pak Cory Carson, conducted a session with the Year 5 parents to explain what the CAT4 test is all about.
