On Thursday, November 9th, 2023, we did our provocation for unit 3, “How We Organize Ourselves.” The Central Idea is “Economic systems organize production, exchange and consumption of goods and services.” This unit is mainly about money, basic economics, and how to use money responsibly. We will inquire into resources, the function and many uses of money, how to budget money and the basics of how to make money by creating a product. In order to introduce them to these concepts and to captivate their interest, children were asked to create a budget for a pretend trip to Bali with their peers. They had to organize their trip into wants and needs, as well as plan their days accordingly, spending their budget as they saw fit. Students used websites such as Traveloka to find the price of real flights and hotels, figure out how much would be spent on food, and then see what was left over to be spent on entertainment. As many of the students have been to Bali, this provocation proved effective in getting students to familiarize themselves with money and its use, as well as how to use money in a responsible way. The students were incredibly enthusiastic about this activity, and we hope it will captivate their attention for the remainder of the unit.
Untuk mengawali minggu pertama dari Unit 3 Bagaimana Kita Mengatur Diri, kami melakukan kegiatan provokasi pada hari Kamis, 10 November 2023. Kegiatan provokasi dilakukan untuk memikat siswa agar lebih tertarik mempelajari lebih lanjut tentang unit yang diajarkan. Kegiatan provokasi yang kami lakukan adalah kegiatan Barter. Di kegiatan ini kami membawa 1-3 barang dari rumah yang masih baik kualitasnya, namun kami sudah tidak ingin memiliki atau menyimpannya.
Kegiatan dimulai dengan membentuk lingkaran, kami meletakkan barang-barang kami di lantai dengan diberikan label nama. Lalu kami berjalan berputar untuk melihat barang-barang teman, dan menentukan barang-barang apa yang ingin kami miliki dari teman kami.
Setelah itu kami diberikan kesempatan mendatangi teman kami dan menawarkan apakah dia mau bertukar barang dengan kami. Kami dilarang memaksa teman kami bila ia tidak mau bertukar barang dengan kami.
Kami merasa senang apabila kami berhasil bertukar barang dengan teman karena kami mendapatkan barang yang kami inginkan. Kami merasa sedikit kecewa bila kami tidak berhasil mendapatkan barang yang kami inginkan atau tidak dapat bertukar. Tapi dari kegiatan ini kami dapat merasakan bagaimana kegiatan ekonomi berjalan di masa lalu sebelum uang ditemukan.
Terakhir kami menulis refleksi dari kegiatan ini. Kami memberikan pendapat tentang bagaimana dan mengapa barter berhasil terjadi dan gagal terjadi. Kami sangat senang mendapat pengalaman bertransaksi seperti masa sebelum adanya uang di dunia serta memperoleh alasan mengapa barter tidak dilakukan di masa sekarang.
On Thursday, November 23, 2023, Ibu Mirza Adrianto and Ibu Nadia Tusin visited our school. Ibu Mirza shared her experiences in selling Fisherman’s Friend in Indonesia, while Ibu Nadia discussed her company, Aidan and Ice Jewelry and Accessories. Their presentations delved into familiar topics such as the economy, business, and economics, reinforcing the children's understanding of concepts like supply and demand, wants and needs, and the importance of meeting customer needs for profit. It was an engaging learning experience for our budding entrepreneurs.
Then, on Monday, November 27, 2023, Ibu Tasha, drawing from her previous roles at JP Morgan and OCBC bank, educated the children about banking. She explained complex systems such as loans, interest, and the banking system in a manner suitable for their age, providing valuable insights.
Continuing the learning journey on Thursday, November 30, 2023, Bapak Robert Van Buchem discussed his role in the spice and flavor business, allowing the kids to taste different flavors. He talked about things like unique selling points, business plans, and potential customers. Bapak Ahnaf Farid shared his experiences with Sarong Gajah Duduk, teaching students about the markets in textiles, fabric, and how his business is run and operated. Both presentations gave a glimpse into their respective businesses and the world of business in general.
A heartfelt thank you to all the parents who generously shared their time and knowledge with the Year 3 classes. Your contributions have made a lasting impact on our students' understanding of real-world applications in business and economics.
Pada hari Rabu 6 Desember 2023, kami pergi studi wisata ke Museum Bank Indonesia. Kami disambut oleh pemandu wisata bernama Kakak Mia. Di sana kami dijelaskan tentang sejarah Bank Indonesia, sejarah perkembangan uang kertas, uang logam di Indonesia, dan ada juga jenis-jenis uang dari negara asing. Kami juga melihat video tentang bagaimana uang dicetak dan juga bagaimana kita ikut menjaga uang agar tetap awet digunakan sebagai alat pembayaran. Selain itu kami dijelaskan tentang fungsi dari Bank Indonesia. Ternyata, kami tidak dapat menyimpan uang di Bank tersebut. Namun apabila kami punya uang yang sudah rusak, kami dapat menukarkannya di Bank Indonesia sehingga mendapat uang yang baru, dengan syarat uang yang boleh ditukar adalah uang dengan tahun cetak setelah tahun 1990.
Kami sangat senang mendapat kesempatan berkunjung ke museum, karena kami dapat mengembangkan sikap ingin tahu dan sikap berpengetahuan, serta sikap berkomunikasi untuk mendengarkan penjelasan, mengajukan pertanyaan, serta memberikan ide bila pemandu wisata bertanya pada kami.
