During this pandemic, teaching and learning has been very challenging, especially for the students. However, Home-Based Learning has also been an excellent opportunity for Global Jaya teachers to find unique solutions to support students in their learning. We know that it is not always easy for the students, and we are proud of the progress that year 9 students have made and the challenges that they have overcome. Heads of Year and Advisory teachers continue to be here here to support our students and help them to succeed in their learning.
Every day begins with a morning Advisory check-in, designed to help our students to prepare for the day and week ahead. These meetings are a chance to check in, share announcements and news, and just generally start the day with a light and friendly interaction. It’s also a chance to see who’s awake and who might need a louder alarm clock!
Every week we have Fri-Yay! with students, which is a time designed to facilitate social connections in Advisory classes. During this time we have had many different activities, including fitness sessions and team scavenger hunts. We have also taken time to gather information from students about how to manage or reduce their workload. These actions have helped us to build relationships with our students during this difficult time.
Every month, we have a Year-Level Meeting, a chance to get all of the Year 9 students together in one place. We use this meeting to share important information in connection with the MYP, or wellbeing or extra-curricular opportunities. We have initiated a Student Ambassador programme in order for student ambassadors to be role models to year 9 and help to share ideas for how year 9 students can be as academically successful as possible. The Year Level Meeting has been a great platform for these student ambassadors.
I would like to say thank you to all of the Year 9 Advisory Teachers, Pak Tommie, Pak Derrick, Ibu Adisty, and Ibu Wening. I am very proud of your contribution and dedication to our students this semester. And to our students, thank you for an amazing semester, have a great rest and we will see you in January!
