We are grateful for the meaningful learning processes in Semester 1, despite the challenge of navigating Home-Based Learning for the first time. Our Kindergarteners showed agility, and teachers were thrilled that our children demonstrated resilience, flexibility, and positive attitudes this first half of the school year. Three valuable things occurred in Semester one that we would like to amplify.
First, teachers believe that the learning process doesn’t only occur in the classroom but can happen anytime, anywhere. HBL helped the team collaborate even more creatively and prompted us to take on an even more holistic approach. Teachers provided relevant learning experiences through a range of face-to-face and offline learning engagements to develop cognitive, motor, self-management, and social skills; counting, sorting, dancing, cutting, pasting, building, coloring, and drawing.
Second, teachers provide regular, constructive feedback to our students; understanding detailed and timely feedback leads to more self-aware learners who take action and can have more control over their learning. Our team offers engaging and thoughtful feedback in various ways; daily comments on student tasks uploaded to Seesaw, mid-term feedback, one-on-one meetings, semester reports, and MSC comments. Feedback is a form of communication and builds relationships between teachers, students, and parents.
Third, the amazing thing we found during Semester 1 is students’ contributions during the learning process. Kindergarteners have been developing a strong reciprocal relationship with their teachers, enabling us to learn from each other. We love how the students continue to show mutual respect and share their incredible ideas during class discussions, building communication and social skills. Students' thoughts inspire the teachers and other students, bringing much positivity into our school community.
