On Wednesday, 18th of November, 2020, Year 6 did a rotational activity as part of the provocation activities for our UOI 3 under the transdisciplinary theme How We Express Ourselves. The 6A, 6B and 6C students were split into five groups of 12-13 students and rotated between five different stations hosted by the teachers of Year 6. As for the rotations, each group spent 20 minutes in each station, doing things like arts, dancing, and expressing ourselves in a variety of ways, then continued to the next station according to the schedule. The rotational activity went from 1:05 PM to 2:45 PM. We did these fun activities as a way to guide and explore our next unit.
The first station was a miming activity. The teachers acted as guests at a hotel and the students were the receptionists. As the teachers expressed their body movements, we had to guess what they were trying to say. It was a very fun activity because it was like a game and it also required cooperation and discussions. In the second station, we did a dancing activity. We watched a video about the evolution of dance, then we practiced a few of those dances such as the Macarena.
Then, in the third station, we drew caricatures. It was a fun activity involving drawing a character but exaggerating its features. As for the fourth station, we made songs using an application called “Music Maker JAM”, a free music making app that has loops and tracks that can be used to make our own music. It was an exciting experience and also one where we got to use our creativity. For our fifth and final station, we expressed ourselves with poetry and had lots of time to make our own poems by making Haikus, rhymes, and many more. It was a truly fun experience because we got to express how we feel in particular, and used poetry as a way of expression.
From these activities, we learned a lot about expressing ourselves through different forms of art. Many students were engaged in this activity because it is definitely an important and interesting topic. This exploration led us to gain knowledge and understanding about the unit. It was an exciting experience, because it let us use our creativity and develop it.
