The Year 4 students had a session with Ibu Ninggar about Digital Citizenship Rules. In the beginning, Ibu Ninggar asked us to randomly post, comment, and like anything we wanted for about 15 minutes in a padlet.
After 15 minutes, we had to review our own chat log and discuss what is okay and not okay when we post online. We needed to focus on who we addressed the post to, how it made others feel, and consider asking for permission to post something about other people.
We also needed to look back to the Padlet and comment on what we think of others' posts and discuss if it is good or bad digital citizenship. After that, we watched a video about good digital citizenship. We went to a new Padlet and answered questions related to the video, and took a look at the Padlet where we had to post randomly. We analyzed our chat log and had a discussion.
From the discussion and the activity, we now know how to be a good digital citizen, we know that there are rules to use various virtual platforms appropriately, and we also reflected on the digital citizenship rules.
At the beginning of our first Unit Of Inquiry under How We Organize Ourselves, we had a provocation activity. We shared our ideas about what we would like the Year 4 shared area to look like to help our learning. As part of our technology unit, we were only allowed to use 'Survival Technology' to complete the task.
The items that could be used (the survival technology) were voted for by 4A and 4B students in the classroom. We got to pick which ones are survival and not survival. The items that we could use were limited; a phone, mask, and shoes only. Not survival technology included things like chairs, laptops, tables, and a lot of others. We were separated into three different groups. Most of the group used phones to help us design our shared area. The phone, as one of the survival technologies, was really useful.
From the activity, we understood what it is like to use survival technology to do something and how to differentiate between survival and non-survival technology. We also needed to think about what would happen if we couldn’t use any technology and what technology is useful and which is not.
