Dear Primary Parents,
We are very grateful to have started this year offline and personally welcome our students back to school.
We welcomed many new students and families to our growing Global Jaya community this semester, including myself. As a new member of the GJS community, I cannot help but compare my experiences to that of other schools I have served at internationally. Our first assembly was held in the first week of school where I introduced myself to the students and expressed how scared I was as a new person joining this school and community. I was being courageous yet deep down I was scared. Imagine my surprise when over the next few days, I had numerous students stopping by to introduce themselves, and offering their friendship and advice. My observations and daily interactions with students and our community’s members have made me appreciate this remarkable place where the IB values and skills are practiced on a daily basis.
It has only been four short weeks and there is so much we are already proud of. We have established routines and expectations with all our students, conducted pre-assessments for teaching and learning, commenced our After School Activities (ASA), participated in student-led assemblies, organized our student council and environmental committees, held Professional Development, liaised with the Year Level representatives, and celebrated Independence Day. We are truly proud of all our students and their accomplishments. Our student-led assemblies are a testament to student voice, agency, presentation skills and willingness to take risks. Parents can view these assemblies on the Global Jaya Youtube channel.
Celebrations have a way of bringing the community together.
After two long years, on Friday 19th August our community celebrated Indonesia’s 77th Independence Day. The flag raising ceremony ‘Upacara’ was enthusiastically performed by our students and teachers. Ibu Nadya led our choir and sang the national anthem and patriotic songs. Teachers led students in fun traditional games and activities throughout the day.
Our team of dedicated teachers are committed to providing a safe and supportive environment for our students. While COVID-19 is still a reality, we ask all our parents to be vigilant and remind that if your child is unwell, please keep them at home, monitor their symptoms and allow them to rest and recover fully before sending them back to school.
Reminders: Upcoming events
September 8: Parent Workshop
October 6-7: Mid Semester Conference
We look forward to working with you as parents and community members to provide the best educational experiences for our students to assist their social, emotional, physical and academic development.
Warm Regards,
Lavesa Devnani
