For the past four weeks, Kindergarten students have gotten to know each other’s names and have started connecting with one another. The children were risk takers while exploring new playground equipment and attempting classroom learning. Our youngest learners showed great effort when communicating with their classmates and teachers during UOI, Math, and Language lessons. However, sharing the playground is where they have developed the most social skills independently.
Our Kindergarten students also learned many of their peers’ and teachers’ names these past four weeks, like their Religion and PE Specialist teachers. For some, meeting so many teachers can be overwhelming in a new, large environment. Even though students routinely meet their teachers, big emotions develop when they don’t remember names or class routines. We use situations like these during discussions in class so our Kindergarten students can become more aware of what makes them feel different. We talk about how every person may feel differently about school or teachers, but all these feelings are good to express and are very typical. Teachers are continuing using narrative stories to get students to be more open in communicating their thoughts and feelings.
