Celebration of Indonesia's Independence Day!
On August 19th, the Reception students and their parents celebrated Indonesia's Independence Day at school. The festivities kicked off with a flag-raising ceremony in the gym. Afterwards, students returned to their classrooms for a snack to fuel up for the exciting games planned for the day.
The real fun began in the MPH, where eager parents were ready to join in the activities.
Here are the activities that took place:
Ping Pong Race: Students held paper cups upside down with a ping pong ball balanced on top. They carefully walked to pass the cup to the next student, taking turns to keep the ball from falling.
Cracker Eating Race: Parents held up crackers while their children attempted to eat them with their hands behind their backs.
Pass the Ball Relay: Students and parents sat in group lines, passing balls from one basket to another.
Banana Eating Race: Kids fed their parents a banana with their eyes closed, competing in groups.
Sarung Relay: Parents passed a sarung (traditional cloth) in lines per class.
The atmosphere was filled with laughter and cheers as each activity brought out the competitive spirit in both the students and the parents. The Ping Pong Race showed the children carefully balancing their ping pong ball, they looked very focused during the game. In the Cracker Eating Race, giggles erupted as kids struggled to munch on the dangling treats, their hands stayed behind their backs while the parents encouraged them with every bite.
The Pass the Ball Relay was exciting as the balls must be passed from one basket to the next, with the parents and children working together perfectly. The Banana Eating Race was a hilarious spectacle, with blindfolded students trying to feed their parents. Finally, the Sarung Relay brought a touch of tradition to the day's events. Parents worked together and passed the colorful sarungs along the line, showcasing their teamwork and agility.
The day ended with a potluck where parents brought festive Indonesian traditional dishes to introduce to the students. Everyone gathered in the Early Years shared area and enjoyed the food together after engaging in the fun games. The atmosphere was filled with a sense of community and shared happiness, creating lasting memories of a day celebrating independence and unity.
