Dear Primary Parents,
It's hard to believe that we have officially completed 1 month of school. The last 4 weeks have been busy as well as rewarding. Our students have settled into their routines, and celebrated the many firsts at school. Our first student led assembly, Upacara, Coffee Morning, Student Induction, External Assessment, and many more. We've seen tremendous growth and enthusiasm in their learning, with students embracing new challenges, building stronger connections with their peers, and demonstrating a genuine curiosity that sets the stage for a successful year ahead
This year, we have also implemented a few changes to phone usage for students on campus. To promote increased social interaction among peers and encourage active play during breaks, we have limited phone use to purchasing food from the cafeteria only. By reducing screen time during breaks, we aim to create an environment where students can build stronger interpersonal relationships, and take advantage of the physical and mental benefits of active play. We strive to help our students develop better communication skills, negotiate conflict and foster a sense of community, to enhance their overall well-being
Looking ahead, next week promises to be an exciting one as our students elect their House Captains, setting the wheel in motion for a dynamic season of House activities. We also welcome you to join us for Coffee Morning on September 3, where you can meet our program coordinators. On September 5, we will celebrate Blue Skies Day, and we’ll wrap up the week with a Year 1 Assembly
Reflections from the Counselor
On Monday, August 12, the new students from Year 1 to Year 6 went through the induction programme led by the Primary SSS team members. The year 1 and 2 new students, being the largest group, were divided into 5 small groups where they reviewed the school rules and names of staff members they need to remember.
Meanwhile year 3 to 6 new students started with a Kahoot quiz based on the presentation of school rules and staffs presented on the assembly the previous week, followed by a discussion session related to how they felt about being new students at GJS. All students were excited to interact, share, and did their best during the quiz to win some house points.
As always, you are welcome to email us or drop in with any questions that you may have.
